Not Dogs - Food Review
Hey Babes,
So I have been away from blogging and maintaining my Instagram, which you can follow Here, mainly because I felt like I felt like I wasn't inspired, but that has now changed, and I have so much planned!!
So as you can tell by the title of this post, I am coming back, with another food review. This time its coming in the form of Vegan Hotdogs A.K.A Not Dogs. Since changing my eating habits and eating a plant based diet, 'Fast Food' never really entered my head, because its common knowledge that fast food is very limited on Vegan options. This has slowly changed With Pizza hut bringing out their full vegan menu, Gregg's bringing out their Vegan sausage roll, M&S bringing out Vegan options for on the go - but nothing really took my fancy. That was until I heard about Not Dogs!
The History
Not dogs was started by two bad-ass babes, Katie and Jane back in 2014. They started their journey in the shape of Festival Fields, where they would serve up their Meat-Free snack. Back then, only serving the original of Not Dogs. they opened their first restaurant in 2016 where they widened their tasty menu - you may also know the name from Dragons den, on which they appeared on in 2017.
The Menu

What I Ate
What the 'Duck' Dog
Honestly, I say this a lot but... WHAT WITCHCRAFT IS THIS??? It tastes just like a MEAT hot dog, but.. Its completely MEAT FREE! How? I have no clue, but my goodness, delicious doesn't quite cut it.
The topping was Meat Free Duck - again.. HOW? it tastes amazing, so tender. Normally, I despise the texture of fake meat, it's usually just a bit too soft, or a bit too much, and I am really fussy with textures. That said, the texture of both the Dog and the Duck was really pleasant. Along with the duck, there was crushed almost poppadom which gave a lovely crunch along with spring onion and chopped cucumber, finished with vegan Hoisin sauce. I really didn't know how this was going to taste, I didn't have much hope on me liking it in all fairness, but boy was I wrong!
For me, this as it is, is so filling, the topping is mounted on, with plenty of sauce to taste, plenty of duck for every bite. the Dog was your normal sized hot dog. The bun it is served in, its soft but not stodgy. In my honest opinion, for £6.50, this is the perfect answer to fast food on the go.
The Fries
I went back at a later date, and I wanted to try the fries and a milkshake. So, that's exactly what I did.
Now, you have many options for the Fries, you can have them plain (which is what I went for) or you can have them loaded with a Not Dog topping of your choice. Sounds great right? Well... To be perfectly honest, not really.
Now, don't get me wrong, they were nice fries, and maybe with a topping they could be better, however, for me, they were just a bit... Flat. They were greasy which fine its fast food its cooked in oil, I get that, but for my personal taste, I couldn't enjoy them as much because of the greasy taste.
These you can have as a meal with a dog, but again you get more then enough for this to be a meal. That said, they don't seem to offer a meal deal, so it can work out expensive. For the fries alone they are £3.75, for me that's a bit pricey when you can go into McDonald's and get fries for 99p. I think if they had a size option so S,M or L, with different prices that would be more ideal.
The Shake
Finally, I tried my first Vegan shake, and it did not disappoint. I went for the Raspberry Ripple flavour, but their flavour options do not disappoint. There is a flavour for everyone for sure. all the shakes come vegan as standard, as they are made with soya milk, and you can have the option of Vegan whipped cream (how could I say no to that?). Not even exaggerating, it tastes just like Raspberry Ripple ice cream, and it was so thick and creamy, it was truly a sweet surprise.
Costing £4.25, you can see, a meal consisting of a Not Dog, Fries and shake would be over £10. So maybe this could put people off, with that said, the portion sizes really are huge, so just 1 item would fill up the hungriest of people that's for sure!
All their options are Vegetarian, but everything can be made vegan on request, their Milkshakes come Vegan as standard with the option of Vegan Whipped Cream. You can Find Not Dogs In Birmingham Linkstreet, Bullring.
Overall Rating... 4/5 I really do recommend this for meat free and meat eating babes!
Have you tried Not Dogs, or will you be giving it a go? Can you recommend any other Vegan food places?
